NATAS was originally formed in 1996 as the National Asbestos Training & Accreditation Scheme, a dedicated asbestos training scheme for the asbestos removal industry whose aim was to improve training standards by providing a structured and quality training scheme for the asbestos industry at a time when there was no effective training guidance or mandatory standards.
NATAS soon became established as a nationally respected training provider and in 1998 became the first dedicated independent training provider recognised by the HSE to provide specialist training to licensed asbestos removal contractors.
NATAS has been actively involved with the HSE and other stakeholders over the last decade (via the Asbestos Training Providers Working Group) in the development of asbestos training standards within the UK and many of the original standards and policies conceived and developed by NATAS in the late 90's are now incorporated within the current asbestos legislation and approved codes of practice.
NATAS was also involved with the development of the BOHS Proficiency modules (P401, P402 etc) and have been one of the most active training BOHS providers, training many thousands of asbestos professionals since the modules were launched in 2000.

NATAS' Asbestos training programs are constantly evolving, from our popular Fast Track BOHS P402 & P405 courses to our varied range of eLearning courses.
Innovation
NATAS identified that the Asbestos Training industry would not have the capacity to deliver training to HSE's target audience within an appropriate timescale. Without an alternative solution to traditional classroom learning it is evident that many people would not receive the important safety message. NATAS ' first eLearning course was launched in September 2009, and was soon recognised by the Health and Safety Executive. NATAS have worked closely with the HSE since the initial development of our eLearning courses in 2008, with a view to setting the standards for Asbestos Awareness eLearning, ensuring content satisfies the objectives as stipulated in Regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 and the supporting Approved Code of Practice L143, that security and data protection requirements are met as well as ease of use and providing a high quality and valuable learning experience for users.
''Online learning (often referred to as eLearning) is increasingly used as a method of providing asbestos awareness training. HSE recognises the use of eLearning as a viable delivery method, among others, for the delivery of information, instruction and training in relation to asbestos awareness training, provided the course content satisfies the objectives as stipulated in Regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations and the supporting Approved Code of Practice.''

Award Winning eLearning
NATAS were delighted to receive the coveted BSIF award for Safety Excellence.
The BSIF Safety Awards recognise excellence within the safety industry, excellence in customer service, product innovation and the improvement of occupational health and safety. NATAS' winning case study was based on the innovation of our asbestos awareness eLearning courses, and the continued learning and development program NATAS implemented for our client, Affinity Homes. eLearning provides a viable, auditable solution to meet the organisations requirement to provide awareness and training to their nationwide contractors whilst instilling an asbestos safety culture with bespoke individual courses provided for each delegates, as well as a program of hands on practical training.
