Objective:

Our Asbestos Awareness and Sampling course provides an introduction to asbestos and a basic understanding of the regulations surrounding it under the Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR 2012). Candidates will be made aware of the properties of asbestos, where it has been used in buildings and when it may present a risk.

This will help candidates to protect themselves and others from the risk of exposure to airborne asbestos fibres and show the delegates how to comply with the health and safety rules of the asbestos legislation. The course also covers Asbestos Sampling Strategies, Safe Systems of Work, PPE and RPE and decontamination procedures.

This course provides candidates with the necessary knowledge and skills to take asbestos samples and send samples to UKAS-accredited laboratories for testing.

Suitability – Who should attend?:

This course is aimed at those who are required to take asbestos samples and send them to UKAS-accredited labs for testing. However, this course does not allow candidates to undertake asbestos surveys, only to take single samples during their normal work activities.

This course is suitable for general maintenance staff, electricians, plumbers, construction workers, decorators, roofing contractors, oil & gas off-shore workers, insurance companies or any employees involved in any part of the building maintenance process who may disturb the fabric of a building.

Outcome/Qualification:

Upon completion, candidates will have the skills & knowledge of how to safely sample asbestos-containing materials and send the sample to UKAS Labor for testing.
