P401 – Identification of Asbestos in Bulk Samples (PLM)

To provide candidates with theoretical and practical knowledge in the techniques of asbestos sample identification using polarised light microscopy (PLM) and dispersion staining techniques.

Objective:

To provide candidates with theoretical and practical knowledge in the techniques of asbestos sample identification using polarised light microscopy (PLM) and dispersion staining techniques.

All our training is delivered by industry-experienced tutors and is in accordance with BOHS syllabus HSG 248 (Asbestos: The Analysts Guide) and in particular Appendix 2 ‘Asbestos in bulk materials: sampling and identification by polarised light microscopy (PLM)’. The BOHS proficiency certificates (P-certs) are internationally recognised qualifications.

Suitability – Who should attend?:

This course for asbestos bulk analysts and laboratory analysts, Anyone who manages asbestos analysts or requires a deeper understanding of the asbestos analysis process (e.g. laboratory quality manager).

Delegates should have at least one month’s work experience in analysing asbestos bulk samples (desirable but not compulsory)

An understanding of HSG248 Asbestos: The analysts’ guide for sampling, analysis and clearance procedures

Duration:

3 days classroom training with written and practical assessments on the 3rd day

Outcome/Qualification:

Candidates who pass all three assessments receive a certificate which shows they have been awarded a Proficiency Certificate in P401 – Identification of Asbestos in Bulk Samples (PLM).

Expenses:

We currently provide in-house training only for BOHS P401. Laboratory required for onsite training, Microscope & Fume Cupboard required for each candidate attending.
